95 MUFC Navy Advance to USYS NCYSA State Cup Semi-finals

With a 2-1 victory over Triangle United Gold, the 95 MUFC Navy girls won Group C of the USYS NC State Cup and will now advance to play Winston-Salem Lady Twins White in a semi-final match to be played next Saturday at 8am in Greensboro.
This is the second MUFC girl’s team to advance to the USYS State Cup semifinals in the clubs history - and both occurred this season!
Congratulations girls and go MUFC! Good Luck in the Semi-finals!!
90 MUFC White Advance to NC President's Cup Finals

The boys 90 MUFC White finished their 2009 season as finalists in the NC President’s Kepner Cup.  They completed group play in 1st place with a 2-0-1 record, scoring 11 goals while yielding just 2.  In the semi-finals, MUFC played the Wilson Explosion and won 1-0 to reach the finals.  Unfortunately, they lost in the finals in PKs, after playing to a 1-1 draw. 

Congrats to Coach Hamill, Coach Hoilett and the boys on a great final season!

 

 

 

MUFC Teams Break the Ice

Icebreaker CupA number of MUFC teams participated in the Icebreaker Cup hosted by Gaston United this past weekend.  Three of our teams made it to the finals, with two finishing the weekend as tournament champions.  The boys 90 MUFC White team finished the weekend as finalists in the boys u18 bracket.  Both the 92 Navy boys and 94 Navy girls won their respective brackets after going undefeated in their preliminary matches.   Congratulations players and coaches.  Way to go MUFC!

95 Navy Girls Repeat as Finalists at CASL Shootout

The MUFC 95 Navy girls fell just short of victory in the 2008 CASL Shootout in Raleigh, NC. This is the second consecutive year that this team has been a Finalist. MUFC went through group play defeating Stafford FC Sparks (VA), the 2007 Champion, 2-0 and Liga de Atletica Norfolk (VA) 2-0. They advanced to the finals after coming from behind 0-1 against McLean FC (VA), to win in penalties 2-1. Only given a 35 minute break before the Championship, MUFC couldn’t get back from a slow start and fell 2-0 to KSA Florida Krush (FL).

Congrats to Coach DiNunzio and the girls.  Go MUFC!

90 MUFC Navy Finalists in State Cup

MUFC are State FinalistsThe 90 MUFC Navy girls finished a magical season on Sunday in the USYS State Cup finals, but falling just short of a state championship, losing 1-0 to the Greensboro Twisters.

After finishing round robin play last weekend with a big win against Region III participant CSC Blue, the girls got an even bigger win against another very strong Region III participant, CASL Elite.

92 Navy Girls Win at WAGS

Congratulations to the 92 MUFC Navy girls team for winning their bracket at the 2008 WAGS tournament in Washington DC this weekend.  The girls played 3 games over 3 days against teams from Virginia, New York and New Jersey.   All three teams played are ranked in the top 10 in their respective state.

Labor Day Success in Atlanta and Greensboro

This Labor Day weekend, 9 MUFC teams participated in tournaments in Atlanta and Greensboro.  Four teams made it to the finals of their respective brackets, with three finishing the weekend as tournament champions.

Pre-season Tournament Success

Julian Brown Results

Congratulations to the 98 Matthews USA Crew for their success at the Julian Brown Cup.  The Crew were champions of theU9 Elite bracket, going 3-0-1 with only 2 goals against in four games.  Congratulations Crew.

Congrats also go out to the U12 Elite bracket-winning 95 Matthews USA Gold Girls, let by Coach Ryan DiNunzio.  They completed the sweep this weekend going 4-0, with only 1 goal against.  Way to go girls.

Other teams that placed as finalists this weekend were the 98 Matthews USA United and the 93 Matthews USA Gold girls.  Thanks to all the teams that participated this weekend and supported such a great tournament.

2008 Matthews USA Invitational Results

Matthews USA would like to thank all of the clubs and teams who participated in this year’s Matthews USA Invitational.  We hope you enjoyed the tournament and look forward to your return in 2009.  Also, we would like to thank all the volunteers who help make the tournament such a big success.  Congratulations also goes out to the Matthews USA champion and finalist teams in this weekend’s action.
